About Us

Ken and Maria perform at the Humboldt Folklife Festival with their
group Kenny Ray and the Mighty Rovers.
In 1989
Maria and Ken Jorgenson combined their talents and experience to produce padded
and insulated soft cases with strong handles and big zippers that stand
up to the test of long term use. “We developed the Blue Heron Softshell Case
to be practical and attractive with particular attention given
to the needs of working musicians. Our top-of-the-line softshell cases
are made by us in our shop on the Redwood Coast of Northern California.”
Ken started playing music on the Northcoast
in 1974. He switched from stand-up bass to guitar a while later and this
change enabled him to lay down his own rhythm when singing. In 1981 Maria picked
up the bass and opened up a musical outlet that she and Ken could share.
Ken still sits in with other people on bass, but for the last twenty-five
years their main musical outlet has been with a country and swing dance
trio. As busy regional musicians, Maria and Ken use their own Blue Heron
cases regularly.
On Tuesdays from 10am to Noon PST, Ken
is host to "Bluegrass
Country" on KMUD 91.1 FM. His show features bluegrass, old-time,
early country and a variety of swing music. You can listen to the show
live on the web @ KMUD.org or
any time from the station
archives. KMUD is a community radio station that serves Mendocino, Humboldt,
and Del Norte counties in Northern California.
